In addition to the Dance Elective courses, students at Canterbury Girls have the opportunity to become involved in extra-curricular dance activities.

Dance Ensemble - Tuesday Mornings 7.20am-8.30am

Dance Ensemble is an introductory program which aims to give students experience and insight into the study of dance as an art form. Dance Ensemble provides Year 7 and 8 students the opportunity to develop dance skills and gain confidence through the experience of performing. There is no audition required and this ensemble will have the opportunity to perform at Dance Showcase Evening (August) and MADD Night (November) and the Biannual School Musical. In addition to Dance Ensemble, students who demonstrate potential and a consistent level of commitment may be invited to join the school’s representative Dance Company.

Dance Company - Wednesday Sport Afternoons

As well as school based events, students have the opportunity to represent the school at a regional level at the ‘In the Spotlight’ Regional Dance Festival, the State Dance Festival, School Spectacular and selected dance eisteddfods. Dance works that are created and performed at these DET based performance events must reflect the outcomes of the 7 –10 Dance Syllabus. The dance elective course is therefore a prerequisite for company members in Years 8, 9 and 10. The dance elective (2 periods per week) provides the students with the dance training they need to enable them to meet the demands of the choreography taught to them during Wednesday rehearsals. Year 7 students who are invited to join the Dance Company are required to continue attending Tuesday Dance Ensemble sessions so they can continue to develop their dance technique.

Dance Ensemble:         $100.00 per year
Dance Company:         $100.00 per semester

These fees go toward the cost of festival entry fees and provide a deposit for costumes required during the year. (Please note for events such as the Dance Festival and School Spectacular, there will be an additional cost for costumes). If you have any questions or concerns about your daughter’s involvement in these activities, please contact Ms. Reed at the school.
