Hazel Bushnell at 16 in 1927At 15 years of age began work in showroom at Anthony Hordens, there trained in showroom work which included modelling in fashion parades.  Was captain of the Junior Hockey Team playing for eight years in the Saturday afternoon competition.

When the Sydney Harbour Bridge was opened, a girlfriend and I were chosen to be hostesses at attend to country clients and show them around.  It was a country club and we had to know about everything happening supplying them with cigars and daily papers etc.

Hordens paid for two black frocks for the two of us.

I later met General De Groot the man who cut the ribbon before the Premier Jack Lang.

I was also chosen as the best blonde head of hair to model “Weller Wavers” for Craig and Atkins in George Street.

I took up a challenge by a New Zealand hiker to Modelling in 1962hike from Warwick Farm Crossing to Sydney Harbour Bridge, Hordens gave me the shirt and shorts free.  I came second and was presented at the Capitol Theatre.  Hordens were very proud of me and gave me a great write up and the Sydney Herald took my photo to publish in their paper.

When Amy Johnson, the single pilot flew from England to Australia, Hordens senior and junior hockey teams formed a guard of honour at the Sydney Town Hall to welcome her.

Once sat in the original “Southern Cross” aeroplane at Mascot.

After leaving Hordens, worked at Hurstville always in fashions.

Later after marriage, worked in the showroom at Ashleys in Parramatta selling and modelling.
